Dogs Are, Well, Great

Let’s all take a moment to stop what we are doing and remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as we commemorate his birthday today. If only his dream of equality and justice for all could come true for people of color everywhere. In years past, I’ve written about Dr. King and his legacy here on […]

Nice News and Well, Not so Nice News

This morning I saw a news report on a shooting at a school in Richmond, VA. I’d been offline most of Saturday and Sunday alternating between writing and caring for a new kitty and playing with a jigsaw puzzle. More about the news item a bit later in the blog post, but first, here’s Max

Remembering Grandma

Looking ahead to Thanksgiving this coming Thursday, I’ve been in a reflective mood and was delighted when a friend sent me this poem about November. Isn’t that lovely? It conjures all kinds of sweet memories, especially ones of Thanksgivings that were spent in West Virginia at my father’s childhood home. Those were boisterous, glorious celebrations

Countries in Mourning

Twenty-one years ago today, terrorism hit the United States in the biggest attack ever. That was long enough ago that some people have let memories fade, others have no memory of the attacks at all. But like other horrific incidents in history, 9/11 should not be forgotten. From the website History.com, is this brief overview:

Despicable: To Be or Not to Be

It’s true. I really am turning into the same kind of curmudgeon as my grandfather who used to throw his slippers at the TV or radio when there was some news item that stirred his ire, as well as a few chosen words. That’s the way I’ve felt too often in the last few years
