Friday’s Odds and Ends

The Day After the Christmas Party

Kitty Christmas
Could you put an aspirin in my milk? I have a hangover.

I thought it would be nice to start off with a cute picture before getting on to the rest of the blog. Sort of bracing you for the nonsense of politics.

First, something that isn’t nonsense. I took an interesting online quiz on politics at I Side With. This is a neat place to find out where you stand on important issues, and the results tell you what issues are most important to you. Each question has a link to a full explanation of the topic, so spending some time on the site is educational as well as enlightening. I found it most helpful in sorting through the “stuff and nonsense” that seems to make it to the news and figuring out who I might vote for in the presidential election.

As the “stuff and nonsense” drones painfully on, the two major parties are at each other’s throats with some of the most hateful sound bites I’ve heard in a long time. And if I get another letter from either of the parties asking for my support that starts with, “Are we going to let the ________ (insert party name) destroy the values and principles upon which we stand?” I am going to scream. You just might hear me.

Anyway, here are some of my results from taking the quiz. Those of you who know me and read the blog regularly probably won’t be surprised to learn this about me:

LEFT WING – Your political beliefs would be considered moderately Left-Wing on an ideological scale, meaning you tend to support policies that promote social and economic equality.

You side strongly towards “Populism”, meaning you strongly believe decisions are best made when everyone has a say.

You side moderately towards “Regulation”, meaning you believe the government should regulate business activity to ensure no one is taking advantage of the system.

You side moderately towards “Isolationism”, meaning you believe we should focus attention on our most pressing issues at home instead of involving ourselves in non-threatening issues abroad.

You side slightly towards “Traditional”, meaning you more often believe we should be a civilized nation that honors traditional morals and values. This theme is more important to you.

You side slightly towards “Collectivism”, meaning you more often believe policy should protect and support the best interests of all citizens.

You can take the quiz HEREI hope you do, as you will find it enlightening.

And if you’d like to have a good chuckle watch this VIDEO of Colbert roasting Sarah Palin like a pig on a spit for her support of Trump. And lest other candidates feel left out, he pokes fun at all the others in the primary.

Now on to some more fun:

My brother-in-law, who is older than I am, by the way, sends me these funny quips about aging. I wonder why?

I’ve sure gotten old!  I have outlived my feet and my teeth, I’ve had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes,  I’m half blind, can’t hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can’t remember if I’m 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver’s license.

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on,  the class was over.

My memory’s not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory’s not as sharp as it used to be.

Know how to prevent sagging skin? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.

It’s scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker.

I LOVE THE SENILITY PRAYER :

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

This last bit isn’t funny, just interesting.

Something unique for this February can’t come in your life time again. Because this year February has:

4 sundays,
4 mondays,
4 tuesdays,
4 wednesdays,
4 thursdays,
4 fridays &
4 saturdays.

This only happens once every 823 years.

Okay, that’s it for me folks. I hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay happy.

And of course, I always welcome comments. Let me know if you take the quiz.

  1. I’ve given up on quizzes of all kinds. I won’t even answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number because I’m afraid it’s someone taking a poll. I’m a political junkie when it comes to the news and the debates, but that’s it.

    1. I don’t do surveys anymore either, Patricia. Instead of being information gathering tools like they used to be, too many have become a barely disguised ad-vert. This quiz, however, was much different. As I said in the post, it was quite enlightening and covered everything from domestic issues to world issues. I try to watch the debates, but have to stop so quickly when they turn from civil to ugly. And the news is so skewed now, I can hardly stand to watch it, either. When this site gave the responses from candidates on the issues, it was just the facts and nothing but the facts. 🙂

  2. Sorry to be the one to tell you, but you’ve been snookered by the latest version of the 823 years hoax.

Usually it’s about a month with 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays but some joker adapted it for February.

If you think about it for a moment, you’ll realize that February always has 4 of all 7 days — except in leap years, like this year. February 2016 has 5 Mondays (oh noooooo!)
