Friday’s Odds and Ends

Christians around the world are in the midst of the holiest of holy weeks. It started with Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday. This is to commemorate the day that Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples. During the meal, known as the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the Eucharist; Holy Communion.

Today is Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. When I was a child, we would always mark the three hours from noon until three that Jesus hung on the cross. We didn’t eat or drink or play or even talk. It was a time for solemn remembering of what Jesus suffered for us. Even though I found that restrictive, there was something about it that definitely touched my soul. I may try that today.

Thinking about Holy Week, I couldn’t help but see the dichotomy between true Christian beliefs and those of conservative Christians, especially those that support the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). In case you are not aware of the issue, let me enlighten you. There are “religious freedom” laws in states such as Indiana and Arkansas that provide a legal defense for businesses and individuals who refuse service to LGBT customers. They say the laws are not discriminatory but refusing service to a same-sex couple is discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, plain and simple.

You can think whatever you want to about homosexuality, but don’t wrap your beliefs in the cloak of my Christianity. The God that I know would not approve.

Okay. End of rant. Keeping with the Easter theme, I thought you’d like the picture and the jokes.

Hey, get off. I’m trying to hide some eggs.

What do you call a mischievous egg?  A practical yolker

What do you get when you cross a rabbits foot with poison ivy? : A rash of good luck

What do you call a bunny with a large brain? An egghead.

So, Easter commemorates when Jesus hid eggs for the disciples to find, and then he turned all the rabbits into chocolate, right?

Where does the Easter Bunny get his eggs? From Eggplants.

What happened to the Easter Bunny when he misbehaved at school? He was eggspelled!

Did you hear about the lady whose house was infested with Easter eggs? She had to call an eggs-terminator!

Why do we paint Easter eggs? Because it’s easier than trying to wallpaper them!

Once there were two chocolate bunnies and one had their ear bit off

One said, “Happy Easter.”

“Huh?” Said the other.

That’s it for me, folks. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and for those celebrating spring holy days, I wish you peace and happiness.
