The award-winning author of Comfort Songs, Comfort Plans, and Comfort Foods digs into the life of single-mom Anna Weber, an appraiser who gives value to other people’s found treasures. On assignment to research a handwritten sheet of music, Anna helps a stranded motorist, only to discover she’s rescued retired NFL quarterback Jack Moses. His confidence and fascination for solving problems makes him impossible for Anna to ignore even as they both dart along separate deadlines to save the finances at an inner-city school. Little does Anna know that as she wrestles with secrets from her past and a suspicious approach to people, Jack is running too—dodging women, pro athletes, and a future with no definable end zone.
As a nemesis threatens Anna’s young daughters, these two unlikely partners discover that it’s in stepping back from years of self-sufficiency that Anna and Jack can find the best treasure of all: a series of sweet, second chances.

What a delight it was to go back to Comfort Texas and see a few old friends as well as be introduced to several new ones – and what a terrific cast of characters made this story come alive.
Anna, an appraiser of relics and other antique treasures is commissioned by the head of a private school in San Antonio to verify the authenticity of a sheet of Blues music and find a buyer in the hopes of bringing funds to help keep the Windows School afloat.
The school was started by two former NFL football players, Joseph Green and Jack Moses. Joseph, known as Jo Jo to his friends, is the one who hires Anna, and he’s married to one of the characters that I liked a lot in the book. LaDonna is a no-nonsense woman who speaks her mind and tries to keep her husband, her kids, Jack, and eventually Anna on track.
LaDonna gets her wisdom from her mother, Robin, another wonderful character in the story. At one point when Anna is considering a major shift for her future, Robin tells her, “Oh baby, you need to spend time in the workshop of your soul. It’s in getting out and doing things, serving others, that you get your real livelihood. Making money is just a bonus.”
In reading this terrific story, I fell in love with Jack even before Anna admitted to herself that she was in love with him. At that first meeting he comes across like a mischievous, charming mix of a playboy and a teenager, and it was easy to see why LaDonna and her mother were always trying to rein him in. He also has a wonderful sense of humor that’s showcased in his dialogue and his smile.
While most the characters, even down to the kids, were engaging and three-dimensional, Rebecca, Jack’s former fiancé was less so. I know the reader isn’t supposed to like her since she’s the foil, intent on resuming a romance with Jack, but I found her stilted, with some actions that came across as a bit unbelievable.
Still, she’s a minor character, easy for me to dismiss because even before getting to the ending I knew this would be a happy-ever-after story, and the author didn’t disappoint.
As with every other book I’ve read by Kimberly Fish, I can say that she never disappoints.
This is a wonderful story of life, romance, spirituality, and friendships, with several threads of mystery woven through. If that is your kind of novel, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Comfort Zone and take a leap of faith and love with Jack and Anna.

Love the quote you pulled from Robin — and this wonderful review. Can’t wait to get back to Comfort!
Robin is such a wise, wonderful character. I loved the scenes where she shared her wisdom and wit with Anna and the other characters. And her relationship with Jack was just as much fun. Wonderful portrayal of a “grandma” in a story.
