The last time the United States had a king was in 1776. Let’s keep it that way.
I can’t physically join a protest here in my corner of Texas, but my heart is with the millions of people across the country who will be marching today to show their demand and hope and desire for a return to democracy as the Constitution outlines.
How quickly Trump disregarded the oath he took as President to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.
For those people who are marching today, I hope you stay safe. Don’t let the presence of military personnel or federal officers goad you into reacting. Be like the Frog.
For people in power in government: I hope you see today as a moment to stop and reflect on what you are in Washington to do. Start acting like dedicated statesmen and women. Put partisan politics aside and start doing what is right and just and fair for all people.
For people in the media: Refrain from using words such as enemy and adversary when referencing the opposite political party. Constantly using those terms only reinforces the sense that we are actually enemies.
We are not.
We are just people who disagree on a number of issues.
For people on social media: Refrain from name calling toward people you don’t agree with. That is only stirring up more rancor.
Let us all be a little kinder to each other.
Thank you. That is all.
