CAUTION: POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT

At its heart this is a Romance. Yes, there is a hint of international intrigue. Yes, there are warm and wonderful friendships and lots of lighthearted moments. But, basically, boy meets girl, etc., right? Ah, but so much more! Without grinding you into the dirt with the nastiness that is breast cancer, author Donna Fasano gives pertinent insights into some of the thoughts and feelings women have who are faced with this disease.

I am a breast cancer survivor myself, and I choose to be a Survivor, not a Victim. (If you've been diagnosed and are still alive, hey! You're a Survivor!) Almost everyone is touched by cancer, whether personally or through a family member, loved one or friend. And this particular cancer, although not the deadliest, is for many women the most frightening because of the potential for massive disfigurement of what, in our society, has come to be a symbol of femininity--our breasts. So reading a book which touches sensitively on this issue while not letting it take over from the romance and story is freeing. As is said, "Of course they're fake! My real ones tried to kill me!"

If you've read this far I will remind you, male or female, BE AWARE OF YOUR BODY. Do self checks and see your doctor regularly. Early diagnosis saves lives. And THERE IS LIFE AFTER CANCER.

Meanwhile, enjoy this lovely, well-written and plotted romance. It is book 2 of a trilogy but absolutely stands alone. Note: Having spent a great deal of time myself "down-y ocean" (Baltimorism), I selected this trilogy from AXP's list when given the opportunity.

Note: I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review. It's not a long book, so I'm going to have to be ambiguous in places to avoid giving away spoilers.

This book continues the stories of the residents in Ocean City with the focus this time on Heather. Heather is the owner of the Lonely Loon B&B and at the end of the previous book, Following His Heart, she has a new guest check in. He's reserved the entire B&B for the entire winter.

Daniel Atwell needs quiet and solitude. He's supposed to be writing a book, but his secrets are becoming more than he can bear. And, when he realizes that he's creating a frustrating environment for his hostess, he feels the need to reach out to her. And, the more he reaches out to her, the more attracted to her he becomes.

Heather feels attracted to Daniel, but she's ashamed of her body and is convinced that she's ugly. She refuses to allow a man to get close to her.

Can the two of them move beyond their past hurts and pains? Can they resolve the conflict that is keeping them apart?

I enjoyed this book. It does deal with some heavy issues, but those are in a fair and balanced manner. Heather has some very real issues that many women today are facing. Daniel, on the other hand, experiences a living nightmare beyond description. His struggles are real, yet he continues to live in hope of things working out.

The end of the book is also realistic and satisfactory. Not everything is wrapped up in a tidy little bow - that's not real life. But, the reader is left with the satisfaction that the characters will continue to work things to a full and complete conclusion. Hopefully, the next book will focus on Cathy and more of the characters' lives will be revealed. Do not misunderstand, there is NO cliffhanger. But, the reader understands that another character will likely get her story next and the other characters' lives will continue in the background. This story did the same with Sara. Her story continued in the background of this book.

Romance - PG / PG13. There is kissing, some heavy petting, but the romance scene is largely fade to black.
There are some Innuendos - women talking about romance and references of desire between characters
Language - PG / PG13 - There are a few strong words - nothing extreme

My rating - 5 stars

Unusual twists and reasons for the romance being held back. I was pleased to be surprised by the unusual twists! Great plot & story line, along with Donna's usual great writing style!
If you're a fan of Nora Roberts style romances, you'll love this book!
The books in this series are stand alone with no cliffhangers, so you can get started anywhere in the series and still be able to move to other books in the series without missing anything important to the particular book you're reading.
This book was a wonderful read and I HIGHLY recommend!

The book is set in Ocean City, Maryland and is a very realistic account of the area. The owner of the B & B is a young lady with a troubled past with men. She has decided to never let any man close to her again. She has valid reasons and the story is one of healing and getting past these issues. The guest over winter is an author who also has problems. Their love grows slowly with each giving the other exactly what the other needs. I loved the book and will be reading the others in the series.

Pretty sweet and not as simple as it seemed. I really enjoyed it, maybe even more than the first one. The only thing between me and the four stars is (again) Cathy. I really don't get the rage about bitchy, rude and vulgar characters but hey. I'm a little sad I won't know more about Heather and Sara, but I'll stay clear from the next book.

Welcome to the Lonely Loon B&B. Heather Phillips runs
the Boardwalk establishment.
It is the winter season. Writer DB “Daniel” Atwell has
rented the entire Lonely Loon for the entire winter season.
Both characters are dealing with a lot of emotional baggage.
Romantic sparks are there but will these two be able to
triumph over their circumstances.
The vivid and beautiful descriptions will literally transport
the reader to the Boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. I
could hear the ocean waves crashing upon the shore plus
smell the sea air.
The characters have dynamic dimensions plus are
well described. These characters jump off the pages right
into your heart.
Two Hearts in Winter is the second book in the Ocean City
Boardwalk series. This book can be read as a stand alone story.
At the end of the story, there are recipes from the Christmas
Eve International Holiday Dinner included for the reader to try.
Thank you to the author for the eBook. My opinion is my own.

Wow - so much in one heart tugging novel!
A mysterious man who offers so much more than Heather bargained for, including some international intrigue. Three best girlfriends who, teasingly, are not getting any younget but are not married and "settled." It was wonderful to revisit Izzie and her Christmas wish list!
We get a glimpse into the fascinating processes of an author's mind... Well, sort of.
Also, a tough topic of medical importance is addressed, as well as self esteem.

This novel takes the reader up and down, just like those reliable Atlantic waves.
We see how important loyalty and friendship are in one's life, and that there will inevitably be tests.
The ending brings closure, along with future possibilities.

I was given this book to review without compensation or expectation.

Two Hearts in Winter is the second book in this series, and just as beautiful as the first. Even though this is a stand-alone, it does help to read Following His Heat as the friendship between Heather, Sara and Cathy form the nucleus of the Boardwalk series. I loved the characters involved as they are integral in the success of the book. When Heather receives a request to rent our her B&B to a single guest for the winter with onerous demands, she is not overly impressed, but seeing as he has rented all the rooms in her B&B, she can't complain as she is receiving her full rent. No matter how much privacy Daniel requires, it is inevitable that their lives will clash and when they do, there is a connection. Daniel is carrying heart-breaking grief and tension, while Heather is denying her right to a relationship based on past issues. Together, they experience the relief that comes from talking about their pain. I kept my box of tissues handy throughout the reading of this book, and I used them liberally. I was happy that it ended on a positive note.

Two Hearts in Winter follows the relationship between Heather and Daniel. Heather owns The Lonely Loon bed & breakfast. Daniel is a best selling author in need to peace and quiet to wook on finishing his latest book. There were lots of twists and turns in this s book and some were very unexpected. Great story!

This emotionally driven story is extremely well written. The unexpected twists and turns kept my interest. Sara, Heather & Cathy provide each other with love, support and humor. The characters are very realistic and I fell in love with all of them. This is more than a love story- it's a life story.

I received an ARC copy of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest review.

I purchased Ocean City Boardwalk Series book 2: Two Hearts In Winter by Donna Fasano and this review was given freely.
Technically this is B&B owner Heather and author Daniel's story but it is peppered with both humorous and serious scenes involving Heather with her two friends and Heather with Daniel. For the most part this is a delightfully entertaining and heartwarming full length novel but serious topics like kidnapping and breast reconstruction are featured.

Very enjoyable

Wonderful story that touches the heart in several ways. One being disfigured and unsure of reactions when your own are not good. Two, the list of love and the missing of a child would tear a parent to shreds.

Two Hearts in Winter by Donna Fasano

You can always count on Ms. Fasano to write about a topic that many women struggle with and do it with finesse. Her characters are also always strong but flawed. How she is able to shine a light on these flaws and allow us to follow their journey to completeness or happiness as they gain insight to tackle their problems head on is one of Ms. Fasano’s greatest strengths.

In this second book of Ms. Fasano’s Ocean City Boardwalk series we meet Heather Phillips, the owner and operator of The Lonely Loon Bed and Breakfast. She seems to have her life on track after suffering through a devastating break-up with a fiancé years ago over a decision she made for her own wellbeing. She’s now happy, prosperous, and has good friends she can count on. Her life would be almost perfect if it wasn’t for this cranky author, DB Atwell, who has rented the entire Bed and Breakfast for the whole winter so he can have peace and quiet to finish his next best seller. Heather has been walking on egg shells for over a month now and the quiet is driving her nuts. Heather is a social person who loves getting to know her guests, which is one reason her B&B is such a success, and it is Christmas Eve.

It turns out Daniel is dealing with more than his next novel and he is hiding from the paparazzi. I love the way Ms. Fasano is able to unfold her characters through realistic dialogue, it gives the reader a genuine sense of who they are. Daniel’s story is heartbreaking and gut-wrenching as he tries to navigate international politics while trying keep his sanity. When Heather begins to learn his story a compassion is awakened in her that she thought she had safely buried and she is forced to confront her past decision in a way she never imagined. I was able to feel her emotional turmoil as if it was my own.

The plot moves at a steady pace, but never too slowly, because there is a lot going on. We also get to revisit and learn more about people and events from her earlier works in this series. While it is not necessary to have read the first book of this series, Following His Heart or the related novella, An Almost Perfect Christmas to enjoy these parts of this story, I have to say that you are missing out on a couple of gems if you haven’t read them. Now I am anxious to learn more about Cathy!

I found Two Hearts in Winter a unique, captivating, emotional tale that will keep you thoroughly enthralled until the very end. Don’t miss this one, it will make your heart smile.

As a bonus Ms. Fasano has included the recipes Heather prepared for her International Holiday Dinner party on Christmas Eve at the end of this book for us all to enjoy as well.

FYI: Two Hearts in Winter is Book 2 in the Ocean City Boardwalk series. This book can be read as a standalone story, as is true with other series books by Ms. Fasano. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** April 15, 2016

Put another one in the win column for Donna Fasano. Two hearts in Winter is the second book in Donna’s Ocean City Boardwalk series and tells the story of Heather Phillips and Daniel Atwell. Daniel has come to Heather’s B&B, the Lonely Loon, for some peace and quiet to work on his book. He craves the quiet to the point where he had his manager rent out the entire B&B for the duration of his stay. His standoffish ways have put Heather on the defensive, which wasn’t Daniel’s goal.

When Heather blurts out how crazy she has gotten trying to tiptoe around her own home so as not to piss Daniel off, Daniel realizes that he has given off the wrong impression. He gets so buried in his own thoughts that he doesn’t realize what is going on around him. He is also holding on by a thread as he awaits word about his missing daughter.

As they begin to spend time together, Heather and Daniel realize that their souls speak to each other. Heather has a secret, however, that keeps her from allowing Daniel to get close physically – she is scarred from a surgery and feels that her “ugly” body will scare Daniel away. When Daniel finds out, he tries to convince Heather that he loves her and that any scars she has won’t make a difference. Will Heather overcome her fears before Daniel leaves?

This is a beautiful book that shows the true power of love – that it is more about a heart connection that can overlook physical and emotional scars. Heather and Daniel are stronger together than apart. Donna Fasano writes wonderful characters that are believable – damaged yet strong. It is easy to get emotionally invested in the story and I got so wrapped up that I didn’t put the book down until I was done. I would highly recommend this book.

This was a sweet and very emotional read after Heather has given up on love after a man she trusted hurt her badly. She doesn’t want a relationship but there is just something about Daniel who is an author that is renting the Lonely Loon for the winter to work on his new book. Both are holding back hiding their past. Daniel is really struggling with his reason for hiding out as it eats him up can Heather overcome her own issues to help heal Daniels and will Daniel show Heather that what she feels is an issue isn’t to him. Both of these wonderful characters are struggling with personal past issues. Very slowly they come together to learn how to love and trust again. I love a story that gives the characters a new chance to find the person they are meant to be with.

Ms. Fasano always sends a powerful message in each of her stories. They are normal people just like you and I that have normal day to day issues that you can relate to. She puts twists and turns that keep the read entertained and invested in the story as she weaves her way into your heart. She gives you characters that are very well developed. Before you know they steal into your heart taking a piece of it with them. This is a story you wish didn’t have an ending as you watch their love play out on the pages you are very invested in their story. I loved each character even the supporting ones our outstanding. This is one author that is after your heart as she gives you a compelling story that will stay with you long after the last page. If you are looking for a read that has meaning, love people who are real that you can relate to I hope you pick this up and give it a read.

There is a social message in each of Donna's books and the second book in the Ocean City Boardwalk Series is no exception. The first book dealt with organ donation. Sara and Landon came together because of his transplanted heart. We also met Sara's friends Heather and Cathy. This is Heather's book. We learn about why she is so cut off from the dating scene. She has seen her mother fight and lose the battle to breast cancer and that has coloured her life with fear and some proactive action. I don't want to give away the story, but needless to say, its very relevant in the society today.
Heather's beau is Daniel, and he has problems of his own. Daniel has hired out the entire Lonely Loon, the Bed and Breakfast that Heather runs, for the peace and quiet he requires to finish his next novel. Unfortunately, things are never exactly what they seem, he has a reason to hide and its eating up his heart. Can Heather help him heal even as his acceptance helps her come to terms with her own body? Its a beautiful book grounded in reality and speaking of how love can still be possible, if you just give it a chance.
I was gifted a copy of the book by the author for an honest review. I enjoyed it greatly and I look forward to seeing what Cathy will get up to with her on again off again boyfriend in the final book of the series.

This is the second book in a warming series--warming not because the romances take place in a lovely town near the beach, but rather warming due to the way broken pasts are healed and evolve into love.

Heather is a woman who's suffered heart-ache, enough for a life time, and sticks her all into a bed and breakfast. She's determined, warm-hearted but not about to let any man sneak in and tear her apart again. Her reasons are understandable, and her past realistic, which makes it easy to feel for her. Her frustrations, decisions and mistakes make her true to life, but then, that's one of the shining points about this series.

The pasts of both Daniel and Heather are not simple, and the author dives into some topics which many romances avoid. This isn't a story about love at first sight, but one of growth and healing. Both sides are right and wrong in their opinions and actions. Both have troubles which are grounded in reality. And the beauty comes when they learn that even when broken, coming together makes them stronger.

This isn't only a romance which centers around the wondrous feelings of true love but dives even deeper. It shows hope and the miracle of healing two people can offer even when they think they have nothing to give.

This is the first book by Donna that I have read & it won't be the last. I loved this book! It pulled me in from the first & keep me enthralled to the end.

Heather is the owner of a B & B. She has pulled away from the dating scene & stays remote. She nursed her mother through breast cancer for 3 1/2 years until she lost the battle. Then she was tested & discovered she had the gene & opted for surgery. After the way her fiancee reacted, she let it color her own perception of herself.

Daniel is a writer that rented the entire B & B for the winter so he could have peace & quiet. Daniel has his own secrets & they are starting to weigh heavily on him. After he realizes his request is causing a hardship on his landlady, he reaches out to her.

Will their chemistry prevail? Will their secrets pull them apart? Can Daniel heal Heather? I love the detail that Donna incorporates into her book. There were secrets to reveal & twists & turns enough to keep you involved in the book. The plotline doesn't get bogged down & keeps moving. I loved this & am going to go buy Book 1 of the series while I wait for the third!!

I received this book as an ARC For free in exchange for a honest review.

Now, I did read part one so I was up to the story line and I have to say she left off great and started this one in stunning detail. You get too see the young lady from book 1 as you read and keep up to date on her life as it twists into this story.

I find this author did an amazing job of making this story real. One we could all have or can live. A chance encounter turned into a real love. Not, a pretend world but one you can see yourself living. This book brings to light a few very realistic health issues that plague the woman of today with breast cancer and the markers. The hard choice and the results of those hard choices once made.

I have to say that I only wish I had the right words to express the feelings this book brought to the fore front for me. As, you know any good book will bring forth emotions if written correctly. This author did an amazing job of doing it correctly!!

Keep up the great job!

A beautiful story of two battered souls who find each other and help each other deal with a few of the twists life throws at you. Heather is the owner of the Lonely Loon B&B and while she's thankful to have the entire place rented out by 1 guest, the requirement for total quiet is slowly getting to her. Her guest is a writer so she assumes he needs to quiet to finish his book. Does he have to be so grouchy and anti-social though?? During a bit of a mental break she confronts him and finds that he is not as uncaring and grouchy as he seems. In fact, DB "Daniel" Atwell seems to be a kind man who is dealing with something that is making him profoundly sad. As these two really get to know each and the real issues of their lives are exposed, it becomes obvious how much they care about each other but will their love be enough???

This is a wonderful book and one I highly recommend for everyone.

I really enjoyed this book! It is the second book in Donna Fasano's Ocean City Boardwalk series.
Heather is happy running and owning The Lonely Loon Bed and Breakfast and enjoys spending time with her friends especially when she has more down time during the holidays. The idea of love is off the page since she suffered loss and betrayal from her former fiance.
Daniel Atwell a famous writer needs the peace and quite that the B&B can offer him during the off season to get his work finished. He finds Heather very interesting, kind and a very loving woman and after losing his wife and missing his daughter having someone that interests him is just what he needs. They soon find it difficult fighting their attraction for one another.

I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

In this sweet romance Heather has given up on love due to the deep hurt inflicted upon her by a man she trusted. Not willing to allow herself to be open to receiving love from another she has throw herself into running the Bed and Breakfast the Lonely Loon. When Daniel a writer rents the Lonely Lone all to himself, for the winter, under the guise of needing peace and quite to write his book, Heather is sure there is more to it. When Daniel opens up to her she finds herself developing strong feelings for him, but can she trust him with her secret? This is a quick read but the story is very well developed and I feel in love with the characters The story in set in Ocean City Maryland which brought back fond memories of my childhood. Daniel is just so sweet to Heather it made me cry.

This is a sweet and emotional love story. Heather runs a bed and breakfast, the Lonely Loon, on the shores of the Atlantic. Daniel is an author that has rented the Lonely Loon for the winter to work on his current novel.
Both Heather and Daniel are struggling with personal trials. Slowly, they learn to trust and love.
Each scene is well crafted. One of my favorites is that of Christmas Eve. Heather and her friends welcome a family into the inn. The little girl is battling cancer. It is very touching.
The characters are all brought to life with the author's words. She gave us a special treat at the end of the book with the Christmas Eve recipes.
I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

From the very first words it grabbed my attention and I knew deep down this was going to be an amazing story that would stick with me forever! It really captures your attention and most definitely pulls at your heartstrings! Heather goes through some pain and heartbreak but the through it all she remains strong!!! And she has a strong support system in her two best friends Sara and Cathy! I look forward to reading more about these characters.. I'm just not ready to let them go yet!!! LOL

My Thoughts...

I really liked this book. It was a sweet romance story, but much more then just a romance. Heather had issues she was dealing with and Daniel had his baggage full of personal problems he had to struggle with. However, slowly they begin to trust each other and help one another overcome the hurdles they had to cross.

It was a quick read and once I started reading it I was glued to my e-reader. I loved the ending, very believable. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I somehow missed the first book in this series, so will be reading it soon.

Even though it is Book 2 in the Ocean City Boardwalk series it is also a stand alone book. I enjoyed it so much I have decided to award it 5 yes 5 "Heart" Stars.

I own this book and it is a part of my Nook library.

Heather and Daniel both have endured traumatic experiences in their lives. Heather's experience has left her with the decision to spend the rest of her life alone. Daniel's experience has him living like in limbo. But, the love of the ocean and the peace it brings begins to help the two see that there could still be a happy ending and life after hardships. Great read that leaves you happy in the end.

I loved this book. Once I started reading I could not put it down. The twists and turns through the relationship and her friendships were very realistic. Some things just catch you out of nowhere and sometimes your best friends can hurt you more than anyone else. I will have to read the other two books in this series. I would recommend this book.

Romance triumphs
Heather runs an inn named the Loon on the Atlantic shore. Her two best friends run a bakery and a cafe, all supporting each other no matter what happens.
Heather's newest guest, Daniel a seeming loner and author, rents the whole inn needing quiet. Both Daniel and Heather have problems they're dealing with by themselves, but manage to find hope with each other. Sweetly told tale about love and overcoming personal trials.

What a beautiful touching story of two people fighting their own emotional battles. Daniel seems dark and mysterious until you hear his story. Heather has vowed to never have a physical or emotional relationship again, there are reasons and as you learn her reasons it becomes clear why. Both their stories are heartbreaking and you can't help to get drawn in as they find comfort in each other. There's a HEA in this story that is very heartwarming.
