Kinsey Hollingsworth's tropical-getaway plans didn't include dodging gunshots. Or a speedboat chase with Mitch Perovski, the tall and tempting spy who'd commandeered her boat. But the socialite would handle anything Mitch demanded--whether it meant going undercover or under the covers.
Mitch didn't work with partners. And although Kinsey proved she was more than a pampered heiress, she was no match for the assassin targeting them...or for Mitch's smoldering desire. He had to get through this one high-stakes task with her. But after a night in Kinsey's arms, could he walk away from their partnership for good?
Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.
After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.
Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.
A quick escape from all reality in a thrill-ride of lighting-fast action and romance..."The Dark Side of Night" by Cindy Dees is a fun read, but does require a total disconnect from reality.
She's the gutsy, society-darling daughter of a Senator. He's a secret government agency killer who trusts no one. When these two get together the sparks, and bullets, end up flying. But when the chips are down, their connection to each other is the only thing that can save them both.

My Review
This is the second book in a combo I bought when on holiday. Kinsey is a spoiled rich girl hiding out after a huge expose in the papers after a public split with her fiancé. Chilling out on her daddy's boat her day is turned upside down by Mitch and a spray of bullets. What follows is their emotional turmoil battling the passion and feelings they have for each other whilst trying to dodge the bullets coming from their enemy. Will they stay manage to fight their feelings for each other and manage to stay alive?
I did enjoy this book, a new series with new characters and whilst there is a steamy scene or two and a lot of imagining what they would do to each other, the story outside of all that is pretty good. There is action jumping off the pages pretty much right from the get go and I don't mean of the naughty variety - it has a really great action story.
Again she uses words that I don't see often in books and that reminds me of years ago, for example cagey "Another shrug. Cagey, he was". Or Kowabunga (I would use a quote but it gives a wee bit away about a particular scene and I don't do spoilers however if you grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this would have been a phrase you used a lot through your childhood.
The story got a tad fantastical near the very end and whilst I did enjoy it I was sitting going ok that would so never happen. If you fancy a book that is great for holiday and with some fantasy and a rough bad guy who is really a good guy then this is the book for you, 3/5 for me this time and I would read this author again.
Very good book. I really liked both Mitch and Kinsey. Mitch was definitely a loner. When he had to commandeer a boat, he wasn't expecting there to be someone on it, especially a beautiful socialite. I loved the way that Kinsey was able to step up and help Mitch by driving the boat like a pro. When Mitch then needed to get into Cuba, Kinsey was able to become part of the operation. This really bothered Mitch, because he was very attracted to her and didn't want to be. He felt that as an amateur she would be a hindrance and likely to get hurt or killed. Kinsey was also attracted to him and was determined to help him. I loved the fact that she had a good head on her shoulders and was able to adjust when circumstances required it. I loved the way they worked together, even as Mitch was trying to push her away. I enjoyed the number of times that Kinsey's quick thinking got them out of trouble. In the final showdown, it was fantastic the way that she was able to convince the leaders to let her try to rescue Mitch and the physical connection that she felt to him that let her figure out what was happening. I also loved the way she stood up to her father for the right to live her own life. I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series, since I came to it late.
Amazing! After reading Cindy's Breathless Encounter, I was looking forward to this story. With it setting off with an undercover agent trying to get away from the bad guys you meet Mitch. And he's handsome, and strong. While the story kicks off with a gun fight and speedboat race to miss being shot, you learn about Kinsey. Kinsey is the daughter of a senator who is very powerful. She is trying to hide from paparazzi's as her fiance broke her heart. While getting looped into Mitch's undercover work. At first she is leery but soon, she learns more about Mitch and wants to help out. She has nothing better to do and it irritates her when he calls her a pampered princess. To prove to him that she can help out and is not just a spoiled rich kid. There was never a dull moment in this story. We go from one situation to another. And as the story unfolds, you start to see a burning attraction growing between Mitch and Kinsey. I love Intriguing novels. I love mystery and I love a woman who can take down a bad guy. Even shoot one! Once again I was blown away by this authors works. And without giving away too much of the novel, this is a page turning read. If you haven't picked up books by Cindy Dees, you are missing out!
This HOT Watch story is most certainly "Sparked by Danger" and "Fueled by Passion". It was almost too violent at times but who would mess with a man on a mission like Mitch, tall and tempting spy that he is? Kinsey, the socialite, that's who.
Spoiler Stuff:
The only problems with this story were: sending in a civilian to do a soldier's work and infiltrating Cuba so easily. Wait, and they bombed a site in Cuba with predator missiles. Umm, yeah, that happens..?!
Kinsey Hollingsworth is relaxing on her father's boat when Mitch Perovski jumps aboard and tells Kinsey to get away from the dock. The bad guys pursue them in another boat. Thanks to Kinsey's boating skills, they elude the bad guys. But the op has just begun and Kinsey insists that she will not be left behind. This is a quick, fun story.
There's a lot more suspense in this one compared to others by this author and others in the romantic suspense line, not to mention the story feels more complete, not rushed or contrived.
A decent romance book to pass an hour or two with a soild suspense plot.
Another home run from Cindy Dees. Loved this humorous sexy adventure romance. Even before I finished it, I was online rounding up all the books in the HOT Watch series. Looking forward to reading the other books. Cindy Dees is on auto buy list now.
I enjoyed this story greatly, it wasn't your typical mystery - rich girl and a covert op! Not your likely pair - though I do look forward to starting another great series!
